Day 1. Fifteen Facts About Me.

1. I LOVE learning and going to school. (Except for maybe this week. I don't like finals!)
2. I LOVE the music from Wicked. I've been driving my roommates bonkers because I ALWAYS listen to it!
3. Every Friday I spend an hour in the green house before my second class. It is SO relaxing.
4. I love listening to the electric guitar. (Especially live!)
5. I really miss being around kids!(!!!!!)
6. When I miss people, I dream about them.
7. My little sister and I are writing letters back and forth to each other and I LOVE it!
8. I am writing a rather large story. (And I'm excited to be able to work on it again!)
9. I just went on my first date in two years today.
10. Maybe it's because I have roommates again, but I've been picking up smells super fast, whereas at home, I didn't. Like. At all. (It usually wasn't until AFTER everyone in the car started saying "EWW!" that I would smell whatever it was... but anyways.)
11. I just wrote and published a book of poems for my family class.
12. I usually always have music playing, especially at work. But now that my favorite station is gone I have to settle for singing to myself for three hours every morning.. I really should just buy a CD player.
13. So.. don't judge me. But I now watch Grey's Anatomy.
14. I REALLY REALLY want to learn how to play piano.
15. I believe that Marsh-mellow Mateys helps you find a date! ;)

Everybody's Doing It...

I figured. I have nothing else to blog about...

Take You My Advice.

Go your way,
And take you my advice.
Give them your name, but not the one you use
And speak of your past as if it is not yours.
Isolate your heart to keep it whole.
Know the facts, but not the soul.
Do not get involved with them,
And let them not grow fond of you.
And let it not be known when your core burns
or weeps for those who are not present.
Hide the tears behind your collar,
And speak at night to someone who cannot hear.
Bridge the gap between you and they,
yet keep a sturdy gate to divide your world with theirs.
And think that every salutation ends in valediction.
To do these things,
You might as well try
to put an ocean in a bottle,
or place the sun inside a bulb.
or dig the Earth a place inside the sky
It is true that all things in life bring risks
But it is those things, those risks
in life which allow us to live
our lives to its very fullest.

The Rest Home.

Oh my child,
You are here at last
To visit me in these white
walls of hell
where the food is tasteless
and salt does not exist.
And a close watch
Rests on every head.

I thought you
had forgotten me
Or left me here to die.
How goes the family?
How goes the life I seem
to be missing?
Do your children miss
having me around?

I thought you had
forgotten me, my child.
But I will not forget you.
No, not so long as I shall live.
I suppose I understand why you
did what you did, though
I admit sometimes I feel lonely
and sometimes I wonder what
it would be like
if
if I
if

Oh!
My child!
You are here at last.
I thought you had
forgotten all
about
me.

Red Riding Hood.

Well I deemed today a get-out-of-the-apartment-day. I feel like I've been stuck in this place for decades and I was ready to get out. So, with some persuasion on my part, a couple of my roommates and I went to the movies! (Do. Do. Doo! What better place to forget your problems than when you're too busy worrying about everybody elses'!) I WANTED to go and see the new movie Beastly, but the local theater wasn't showing it. (How lame is that??) So, we decided we'd go and check out this Red Riding Hood movie. I'd consider myself a somewhat fan of Amanda Seyfried and Twilight wasn't thaaat bad. Right?

The movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (the Twilight lady) and the movie had a lot of familiar actors in it. There was that one guy from Stargate -Michael Shanks aka Daniel Jackson. So that was pretty fun. They also recycled some of the people from Twilight, namely Charlie or Billy Burke. And then Serious Black, or well, Gary Oldman, was in the movie too. It was strange seeing him in the role that he was in. Well, it was rated PG-13 for obvious reasons. Lots of cutting off of things and mostly there was just too much lovin' going on. It was a good story, I loved the twist at the end, wholly unexpected. But the content was a little bit too ...not so good for my taste.

Prank.

So, this week for work I have to clean the west side classrooms and offices of my building. ..And I know that later in the day I have a roommate who has a class in one of those rooms. And it's the BIGGEST classroom in the building with roughly a hundred fifty seats. So, I decided I'd pull a prank. I wrote a note on one of the chalkboards (I was going to make it fill up one whole chalkboard, I mean, the teachers have seven more to write on, but I decided I'd only take up half of one). This is the note (And Jude stands for Jude Law -my roommate's "secret" crush):

And this is the conversation my roommate had with her professor (and she also took the picture)
Professor: Oh do you know that girl?
Roommate: ..That's me
Professor: Oh, ..he's a really nice guy.
Roommate: Haha. Yep.
Professor: Is he your fiancé?
Roommate: Nooo.
Professor: Do you want him to be your fiancé?
Roommate: No!
Professor: Oh. ..I've been there before.
And my roommate laughed and high-tailed it out of there!

Can You Say: Water Overload?

Today marks a very monumental day for me. Today is the eleventh time in my life that I've donated blood. (Hooray!) I literally drank liter after liter after liter of water ALL day today and (almost) ALL day yesterday. And, let me tell ya, the number of bathroom breaks that I've taken has gone WAY up! I went JUST before leaving to go donate. JUST before I checked in and I had to ask the guy in the middle of getting my paperwork filled out if I could go AGAIN! It was insane! And then, of course, I had to go RIGHT when I got home. Sheesh. Is this how you pregnant women felt?? Goodness, I feel like I practically LIVE in the bathroom!

And (not that this is going to make any sense to you, but) my hemoglobin was a little over 14. My Blood Flow was 8 out of 9 (which is SUPER good, especially for me!). Total time in the chair ...dun, dun, DUN a grand total of fifteen minutes. (AHH!) I was SO excited! I didn't feel light headed at all and except for the expected discomfort of a whole pint of blood draining out of your body and having to have your heart pump tons of extra blood, I felt great! I ate some pizza afterword, drank tons MORE water, flirted with like three guys at once (..okay, it wasn't REALLY flirting, it was more like just asking lots of questions. But, hey, when you're single what's the difference?) And the walk home was good too, I just really have to pee now... If you'll excuse me...

My First Attempt at a Villanelle.

Letting Go.

You’ve changed, I’ve changed, and life is changing too.
This bond has shifted painfully, the old I’ll surely miss.
But letting go is another way of saying I love you.

I tried to make it work, to start this all anew
Yet found my efforts futile when things went all amiss.
You’ve changed, I’ve changed, and life is changing too.

You couldn’t understand or even see at all my view.
The best that I can do and reason on this is-
That letting go is another way of saying I love you.

You wear a pair of blinders, going on without a clue.
We cannot live within this false pretense of bliss.
You’ve changed, I’ve changed, and life is changing too.

To leave would take its toll on me, however hard to do.
I’ll bind my heart with bleeding rags and leave behind your kiss,
For letting go is another way of saying I love you.

This is a failing, dying bond that we cannot renew.
And if I’ve learned one thing in my life, let it be this:
That you’ve changed, I’ve changed, and life is changing too.
And letting go is just another way of saying I love you.

Megamind.

Amazing! Yes! Watch it! It was SUPER funny and it teaches a really good lesson: Hero's aren't born. They're made. It's totally kid proof and I LOVE how Megamind has this tendency of mispronouncing words. Like Metro-city is metrocity. Or melancholy is meloncally. ...Or you might just have to watch it. Anyways. It's good. I'd totally give it an A. Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fay. I kept thinking of Elf when I was watching it and that just made it funnier. But anyhow. Yeah. I guess that's it... Watch it!

The Story of Roger and Elaine

My amazingly-freaking-awesome roommate shared this story with me the other day and I was laughing histrionically. Anyways. I thought it was too good not to share! (It's by someone named Dave Barry by the way. ..In case you were wondering.) And it isn't really that long, it just LOOKS long. ...But it's worth it! Trust me!

Let’s say a guy named Roger is attracted to a woman named Elaine. He asks her out to a movie; she accepts; they have a pretty good time. A few nights later he asks her out to dinner, and again they enjoy themselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after a while neither one of them is seeing anybody else.

And then, one evening when they’re driving home, a thought occurs to Elaine, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud: “Do you realize that, as of tonight, we’ve been seeing each other for exactly six months?”

And then there is silence in the car. To Elaine, it seems like a very loud silence. She thinks to herself: Geez, I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he’s been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I'm trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn't want, or isn't sure of.

And Roger is thinking: Gosh. Six months.

And Elaine is thinking: But, hey, I'm not so sure I want this kind of relationship, either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I’d have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily toward . . . I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person?

And Roger is thinking: . . . so that means it was . . . let’s see... February when we started going out, which was right after I had the car at the dealer’s, which means . . . lemme check the odometer . . . Whoa! I am way overdue for an oil change here.

And Elaine is thinking: He’s upset. I can see it on his face. Maybe I’m reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed – even before I sensed it – that I was feeling some reservations. Yes, I bet that’s it. That’s why he’s so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He’s afraid of being rejected.

And Roger is thinking: And I’m gonna have them look at the transmission again. I don’t care what those morons say, it’s still not shifting right. And they better not try to blame it on the cold weather this time. What cold weather? It’s 87 degrees out, and this thing is shifting like a heavens-to-betsy garbage truck, and I paid those incompetent thieves $600.

And Elaine is thinking: He’s angry. And I don’t blame him. I’d be angry, too. God, I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can’t help the way I feel. I’m just not sure.

And Roger is thinking: They’ll probably say it’s only a 90-day warranty. That’s exactly what they’re gonna say, the scumballs.

And Elaine is thinking: maybe I’m just too idealistic, waiting for a knight to come riding up on his white horse, when I’m sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a person I truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy.

And Roger is thinking: Warranty? They want a warranty? I’ll give them a heavens-to-goodness warranty. I’ll take their warranty and stick it right up their.... .

“Roger,” Elaine says aloud.

“What?” says Roger, startled.

“Please don’t torture yourself like this,” she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears.

“Maybe I should never have . .Oh Heavens, I feel so.....”(She breaks down, sobbing.)

“What?” says Roger.

“I’m such a fool,” Elaine sobs. “I mean, I know there’s no knight. I really know that. It’s silly. There’s no knight, and there’s no horse.”

“There’s no horse?” says Roger.

“You think I’m a fool, don’t you?” Elaine says.

“No!” says Roger, glad to finally know the correct answer.

“It’s just that . . . It’s that I . . . I need some time,” Elaine says.

(There is a 15-second pause while Roger, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with one that he thinks might work.)
“Yes,” he says.

(Elaine, deeply moved, touches his hand.)“Oh, Roger, do you really feel that way?” she says.

“What way?” says Roger.

“That way about time,” says Elaine.

“Oh,” says Roger. “Yes.”

(Elaine turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing him to become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if it involves a horse. At last she speaks.) “Thank you, Roger,” she says.

“Thank you,” says Roger.

Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn, whereas when Roger gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediately becomes deeply involved in a rerun of a tennis match between two Czechoslovakians he’s never heard of. A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mind tells him that something major was going on back there in the car. But he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it’s better if he doesn’t think about it.

The next day Elaine will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring every word, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification. They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching any definite conclusions, but never getting bored with it either.

Meanwhile, Roger, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Elaine’s, will pause just before serving, frown, and say: “Norm, did Elaine ever own a horse?”
